Kaduna state government has been called upon to control pollution emanating from different abattoirs, control pollution emanating from different abattoirs in the state to curb the spread of communicable diseases.
The call was made by an environmental practitioner, Mr. Mattress Ayuba when he spoke with New Nigerian online reporter in Kaduna yesterday at a talk show at Kakuri abattoir.
He advised the butchers to take their health very serious by thinking of alternative method of removing the skin of animals slaughtered at the abattoir, saying the tick smoke that accomplished removing animals skins are dangerous to the health of the butchers.
He said the smoke is hazardious to the inhabitants living within the vicinity of the abattoir and the butchers too, and bring to the notice of the government the current issues of Covid 19 that the butchers and the people residing around them could be vulnerable to the pandemic.
Mr. Ayuba appealed to the government to provide a modern equipment for the removing animals skins to all abattoirs in the state, which could serve as revenue generation avenue.
"The government can place the equipment on rentage for the butchers at moderate charge that will equally produce good and eatable beefs for the consumers ", he added.
The environment expert informed the participants to imbibe the directives by NCDC to make them live safe at their different workshops and homes, saying that the Covid 19 pandemic is real and has no respect for anyone irrespective of position in the country.
Many speakers also harped on the need for government to modernise the abattoirs to enable butchers provide hygenic beefs to the society.
