Reactions to Buhari’s declaration are swift, as Nigerians greet the news with different reactions.

Okorocha —  a patriotic response

See some of the reactions below:

Oby Ezekwesili reacts

Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls, BBOG, advocacy group, has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration of his ambition to seek a second term in office come 2019.

In a tweet on Monday, the former minister of Education wrote: “Reading the Breaking News that our President will be seeking reelection in 2019, I remembered the story of the “Ejionu” masquerade.

“Our President had not yet recovered from his first journey and here he is UNLIKE the very wise Ejionu, seeking to embark on a second one. Hmmm.

“The nice part of the “Breaking News” is that it is good to formally know that it is directly to @NGRPresident @MBuhari that Nigerian citizens will shortly be handing the APC’s own #RedCardToAPCAndPDP in 2019.

“There was a masquerade which in a burst of Hubris left its own village & strayed into a neighboring town.

“The neighbors gave it the beating of a lifetime, it barely survived.
“Asked some months later if it would go again, it replied:
“I have not recovered from my 1st journey!”.

Okorocha reacts

Imo State Governor and Chairman of Progressive Governors’ Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration for second term, could be adjudged a patriotic response to the clarion call of Nigerians of goodwill for him to lead the Country for another 4 years.

The governor noted too that, the declaration of the President to go for Second tenure would also go a long way to reduce the noise of the opposition and take care of the idiosyncrasies of certain elements in the system.

The governor said the President has done well to deserve second tenure and remarked that those who had wanted to blackmail him out of going for another term can now find other meaningful things to keep themselves busy.

He expressed optimism that the President would largely garner more votes in 2019 than he had done in 2015 because most Nigerians, including people of the South-East have seen that he meant well for the nation and her Citizenry.

The governor said the APC has no apology to make because it has done wonderfully well considering the magnitude of the rot it met on ground in 2015 and noted that the antenna of the opposition in the Country will finally be lowered when the campaigns begin and the Party will be showing Nigerians its achievements in the States under its control and at the federal level.

The governor said when a Political Party had admitted that the government it ran was a huge failure and then apologized, such scenario goes with restitution and not with reward.

He urged APC members across the nation to close ranks for the Victory of the Party at all levels in 2019.

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode

Ex-Aviation minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari's declaration to contest for second term earlier today.

The PDP chieftain took to Twitter to announce that the President will fail in his bid to clinch power again in 2019. He wrote;

"@MBuhari has declared his intention to seek for a fresh mandate. He should prepare himself for the biggest demystification in Nigeria's history. A man whose legacy is nothing but blood, death, destruction, corruption, division, conflict, failure and carnage wants to run. He will FAIL!"
